is my busiest day. I write articles, ship Ebay items, place orders and market
my websites. I have two preschoolers so during the rest of the week I work

Why did you join / start you business?
I started the business because I had a plan to stay home with my baby after she was born. So I started working from home when she was just a thought, and continued until now. In the past few months, I relaunched the business to move from an independent contractor to a true small business owner.

Tell us about one of your typical days.
I do the most work when she is asleep, for 2 hours in the afternoon and from 10 pm to 3 am at night. I can usually get a few things done between dinner and bedtime as well, when my husband is playing with her. I'll sometimes take her for a walk or drive during the day just so I can make some phone calls! If she's having a bad day, I just have to accept that my work day goes out the window and I'll get it done the next day.

What is your favorite thing about your job?
The stuff I do is very interesting to me - challenging, ever-changing, but very interesting and engaging. There are just so many bad websites out there, or people not using the web to expand their businesses in all the ways possible. I like that I can help other people achieve more success!

What is you biggest challenge as a WAHM?
I always have that guilt ... like am I paying enough attention? If I bring in help with caring for her, am I just handing her off to someone else? It's also hard because I've never really left her with anyone other than my mom or husband. When I have a meeting somewhere, it's always a little stressful to shuffle our lives around.

What are you doing to overcome those challenges?
I just ... do it. I just get dressed, put my happy face on, find someone to leave her with, and just keep telling myself that she's not going to MELT because I left her for 2 hours. She's so young though - it's still hard.

What advice would you give a "wannabe" WAHM?
It's not an easy way to go. Because you are a parent and working from home, you never stop working. I do love it, and I wouldn't give it up, but if you find it too much stress, that is OK too. I find myself the most stressed when I set myself to strict standards. It's just easier to go with the flow.

I just relaunched my business after being down for a while with a newborn. My net income in 2006 was -$158. I think I'll use it for a good cry. That is the problem with a new business though - the first few years can be a giant money suck until you start turning a profit.

My business isn't a typical work from home situation. You can start something with less costs if you become an independent contractor. I had been an IC for years, but I wanted to have a true business now, complete with employees. So my situation is probably a little more extreme.

What is your favorite motivational quote?
"DUUUUV!" It's what my daughter says to me when she wakes me up every morning. It's incentive to get up every morning and do what I do. I want to make her proud of her mommy!

Why did you join / start you business?
I started my business for two reasons: 1) To have a more flexible lifestyle in order to participate in my children’s lives and 2) To have control over my own career.

Tell us about one of your typical days.
It depends on the day of the week! Every day is different because I have one daughter in kindergarten half days and one daughter in preschool 3 full days. So I have a good mix of time alone with each girl, time with both girls, and time alone. I try to get up before the rest of the house and check email. As everyone else starts to stir, I begin making breakfast, checking backpacks, and laying out clothes. Once my daughter (or daughters depending on the day) are off to school, I start working from my laptop. My husband comes home for lunch and whoever is home on that day eats together. Then I work a few more hours in the afternoon and the dance/swim/school carpools start. We all get back together for dinner and a couple of hours relaxing with the kids. Then after they go to bed, I work out for an hour. After that, I work on my laptop for a few more hours while my husband and I watch tv.

What is your favorite thing about your job? The flexibility of being able to enjoy LIFE.

What is you biggest challenge as a WAHM? Not working too much. I have a tendency to want to do too much too fast.

What are you doing to overcome those challenges? I try to take things in stride and balance my weeks, understanding that some weeks are more about work and others are more about the family.

What advice would you give a “wannabe” WAHM? Don’t be constrained by your current skill set. I started out as an attorney. Instead, think about what you ENJOY and turn a hobby into an income.

I contribute about half of my family’s income, so I pay the bills. But my business does allow my family to enjoy nice things while not sacrificing the ability to spend true family time. I never miss a class field trip and volunteer more than any other mom in the class. On the flip side, we take nice vacations and are building our dream house.

Anything else you would like to share?
Make a plan. Really see where you want to be in 6 months, in a year, and in 5 years. It all may change. But get a picture in your head of what you want and work toward it. Be studious. The internet is a wealth of information and you can find anything at all that you are looking for.

Why did you join / start your business?

I joined because I have always loved the products and was missing their whole honest approach. Home and Garden Party was my original success story before my daughter got sick. It is already becoming my recent success story now that I am back.

Tell us about one of your typical days.

Well, a typical day for me would be get up get ready for my bank job and get my kids up and ready for school. I pray then check emails before heading out for my 5 hour shift. I get to talk with people about HGP when they comment on something like a piece of jewelry I am wearing or the reeds they are smelling. Come home fix supper and either make a few calls about HGP or get ready to go to a party. My kids are 16 and 12 plus very responsible so that makes life easier. I always take a few moments to spend with each child before heading back out or between calls.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

People. I LOVE meeting people. Giving them information and helping them gain whatever it is they may need or desire in their lives. Whether it be from hostessing, decorating their homes or making extra income.

What is you biggest challenge as a WAHM?

Not cuddling with my kids and dog instead of making calls.

What are you doing to overcome those challenges?

I am challenging myself to be more disciplined.

What advice would you give a “wannabe” WAHM?

Go for it! Don't second guess if you can do it. You can do anything if you put your mind to it and make a plan of action.

Why did you join / start you business? I recognized this company as something extremely unique and fun; Individuality is a hot trend right now! The company is new nationally, but they have taken things slow and piloted for a year in Utah. I have been looking for a great party plan for quite awhile and this one fulfills my love for creativity and wonderful product, company, etc.

Tell us about one of your typical days.
Hmm...days are always crazy with kids! I have a 5 yr old and 2 3/4 yr old, plus I babysit four more kids three days a week. During naps, I answer emails and post on message boards, blog, work on marketing. I schedule phone calls for naps and after dinner.

What is your favorite thing about your job?
So many reasons...I love to get out with the "girls" and have some adult conversation, which is the main reason I am drawn to party plans. It is also very confidence building in being a success and earning money, trips, and prizes.

What is you biggest challenge as a WAHM?
Finding balance.

What are you doing to overcome those challenges?
I try to stick to a schedule as to when I work on biz, when I spend time with kids, when I am a wife and homemaker, etc.

Be smart. Pick something you can live with and be passionate about. Research, research, research. Talk to real people who are living it--if they seem to be too optomistic then ask them to be real with you.

I am a busy stay at home mom with two kids, two indoor pets and a wonderful loving Husband. I have an at Home Business called Munchkin Music ~ Personalized Childrens CD's and I am on the phone alot taking orders.

I entertain my 1 year old son with a deck of cards.(any kind) 52 card pickup ~ He loves to see the cards fall on the floor and all the colors. He loves to sit in the middle of the cards and just pick one up after the other. Of course tasting each and every one. It keeps him busy for at least 20 minutes. Long enough to get my calls made & answered. It works great!!

The other thing that I have done to keep my 1 year old at bay is give him an old phone book ~ He loves to turn the pages and of course rip some of them out. I am not sure that I am teaching him good book manners, but he loves to hear the fine pages turn and rip. (just keep your good phone books up and away) lol!!! It works!

Staying focused on work

Setting up an extra room as a home office really helps keep me focused. When I am in that office, I only work, no personal calls.

Why did you join / start you business?

I found that women love to spend money on jewelry! I’ve tried to sell other things but have found that the average jewelry party is twice as high as the industry average. Plus, the host benefits are fabulous! With a previous business a $400 party would get my host $50 in free product. In this business that same party gets my host $130 in free jewelry, plus she’ll be entered in a quarterly drawing for a free trip!!!

Tell us about one of your typical days.

My typical day revolves around my kids. I chose this industry for it’s flexibility, so I enjoy volunteering at school, working with my church youth group, and being home to raise my kids. While my kids are in school or playing/napping, I get to work my business and help my team. At night after dinner I get to get out of the house two nights a week and play with jewelry! How fun is that???

What is your favorite thing about your job?

That I get to help women feel good about themselves by dressing up, getting together with their friends, and reaching their own business goals.

What is you biggest challenge as a WAHM?

Ooh…honestly, finding the balance between working at home and living at work. If I’m working I feel like I should be with my kids, if I’m with my kids I feel like I should be working.

What are you doing to overcome those challenges?

Setting office hours and daily to-do lists helps. For example, if I have to volunteer at school in the morning I make sure I set aside time in the afternoon to connect with five people…hosts, team members, or customer service follow up. Then when I’ve done that, I close the door and go back to my family!

What advice would you give a “wannabe” WAHM?

Set boundaries and stick to them. Have time that you will NOT take business calls and emails, and days you will NOT do parties. Make sure your family knows they are number one and prove it to them by giving them their own time. But remember that a business can’t work without a business owner, make sure you dedicate time to your business.

Why did you join / start you business?

I love costume jewelry. I saw some antenna rings on the internet and thought they were the cutest things! I set out to find a factory to manufacture them for me at a better quality than what was out there. I love Trinkies and feeling good about your product makes a huge impact on your business.

I have for years tried other kinds of businesses; I knew one day that I would find my passion. I started my business to of course make money and have a more comfortable life, but also to have a sense of self. Being a mom is rewarding, but being a successful WAHM is over the top, WOW!

Tell us about one of your typical days.

My day starts off with getting my five children ready for school, that can sometimes be enough to wear you out before you get started. Then I plan my day while I have coffee. My days vary from days of heavy orders when I do nothing but pack orders to days that I have no orders and that is when I take time to promote my business, do follow up calls with customers. I try to “quit” work by 2 so that I have time for housecleaning before the wee ones get home.

“Let the games begin” – that would be a 3:30 when my children get home and they all have their stories and homework then it’s dinner and this and that until 9:00pm

What is your favorite thing about your job?

The sense of accomplishment, it’s a great feeling to know you are living your dream.

What is you biggest challenge as a WAHM?

To stop working! I stay up later than I should sometimes or sneak off to check emails.

What are you doing to overcome those challenges?

I just have to remind myself that I have a family and that it’s not good to stay up to the wee hours and drag the next day. For awhile I had a sign on my computer that said “GO TO BED!”

Don’t just sell/do whatever because of money. Find something you really feel good about so even during the times you aren’t doing well, you still have a passion for it. Besides I think your passion shows through.

Why did you join / start you business?
I’ve learned that you cannot get rich by working for someone else. I want to be rich! ;) Seriously, I envision things like paying bills on time, early even, sending my kids to college and being there for my parents in their Golden Years! Initially, Personalways™ was a photo card shop. By the grace of God and unceasing determination, we have evolved into an ever growing personalized photo gift business. It is very satisfying to create a gift that someone can be excited to give.

Tell us about one of your typical days.
A typical day includes waking up at 6:00 am, getting my 14-year off to school and beginning my work day. I read e-mail, contact customers, maintain the website, update product information, etc. The “fun” part includes photo-editing and creating “proofs” for my customers’ orders. Once they are approved, I use a special combination of ink and heat to create something wonderful. Somewhere in that course of events, my 3 year old wakes up. We eat meals together and take “play” breaks throughout the day.

What is your favorite thing about your job?
My absolute favorite thing is being here for both kids! My little guy needs me some days more than others and my schedule allows for that. Also, a huge plus is that when my oldest needs to come home from school for some reason, we go get him. I don’t have to clear it with anyone or lose pay! So as different as their needs are – I can meet them!

What is you biggest challenge as a WAHM?
My biggest challenge is the housework. The house continues to clutter, dishes continue to get dirty and laundry continues to pile.

What are you doing to overcome those challenges?
First of all, it is a team effort. We’re still trying to implement a schedule. Of course this in and of itself is a challenge because no two days are the same! But we continue to work at it.

What advice would you give a “wannabe” WAHM?
First and foremost – figure out what you enjoy doing! You have to love your work. Then look into established programs that are related. I would suggest signing up as an Affiliate, Consultant or Distributor at first. This introduces the World Wide Web and you have mentors to teach and help motivate you. The initial investment is much lower than starting your own business and there is less risk. You can easily branch out from this later on your own!

Everything! Squirreling money away for college educations is the highest priority. Also, I plan to help my parents out as needed with retirement and then - travel!

Working from home is by far one of the most challenging choices we have as Moms. However, it is also the most rewarding. It can be done and it can be done well. But you have to posses a strong will, endless determination and complete faith in what you are doing! No matter what, believe in yourself and in your dreams!

Why did you join / start you business?

I began my home business with Watkins because I had grown up with the
products in our home. The Watkins man lived two doors away so I knew the
smells, tastes and what Watkins products could do to help keep us healthy.
I started my business almost 7 years ago after my friend kept asking me to
join. I decided since I was buying the products I may as well join and get
the discount. It just evolved into a lot more from there with my having a
downline and working it more as a business than just for the discount.

Tell us about one of your typical days.

My days are never the same here. I check my emails as soon as I can get on
the computer. I go to my website and check my emails there and check the
status of my orders and so on. I get information packages ready to mail out
to those who have requested them, I get sample packets ready. Then I usually
have some errands to run, deliver orders, mail catalog packages and then
come home and my day is pretty well gone. I have my dinner and come back
onine and start all over with mail, message forums and my website.
On really busy days, I am helping hubby to put new flooring down, paint, or
move furniture around so we can get things done before the holiday season.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

I love the products and love meeting new people. With Watkins, I have met
many new people both online and offline and have made many new friendships.
Watkins has helped me to move out of my "comfort zone".

What is you biggest challenge as a WAHM?

Oh wow, to find more hours in a day would be nice. My biggest challenge I
think is trying to keep organized. I am for a bit then its all in need or
re-organizing again.

What are you doing to overcome those challenges?

I try to organize my files each week. I keep my papers in a filing cabinet
which really helps a lot.

What advice would you give a “wannabe” WAHM?

I think the main thing when someone is looking for a home business, is first
to ask a lot of questions. People jump into things for the money they will
make before they even have any idea what the business is about or what kind
of work it involves on their part. The money is there to be made but it has
to be worked for just like every other job or business. It takes time ,
effort, and consistency.

Why did you join / start you business?
After a company that I was a Director with for over 1 1/2 years took a direction that I did not feel morally right about representing sold their garment line to another company I walked away. This was October of '05. In February of '06 I was informed of Latasia Jewelry by my former upline with the other company. Turns out hundreds of those women went over to this company and were having huge success. I prayed about it and felt at peace so I stepped out and gave it a try! That's how I found Latasia.

My "why" is a beautiful 2 1/2 year old little boy that I cannot stand the thought of being away from for 8-12 hours per day. He is the reason I'm at home and I am making more money being home with him than I ever did out in the regular work force!!

Tell us about one of your typical days.

I get up and get my little boy dressed and fed breakfast. We talk and play and cuddle for a little while then I get in here and check all my emails and the message board topics that I've subscribed to and make any calls that need to be made in the morning. Then I get out of my office and go hang out with my son. I make calls throughout the day when they are scheduled and I pop into my office to check any email that I may have gotten periodically.

My son goes down for his nap in the early afternoon so I work during that time making more calls, replying to emails I've gotten during the day and marketing my Latasia business by contacting ladies to book parties or about the business opportunity.

When he wakes up I play with him and work is on the back burner for the rest of the day. I do check emails but only reply when they call for immediate attention. I'm available to all the girls on my team whenever they need me so if they call and my son is happy I help them all I can.

Eventually my husband gets home from work and I visit with him and cook supper and fit some housework in there too.

My husband and I usually watch our Tivo'd shows from the night before and some from that night and hang out til we go to bed. So basically I don't do much, LOL. It doesn't feel like much when the day is done anyway. I just have a good time with my work and with my son and hubby and I fit it all in together throughout the day.

Um, and yes, I DO stay in my pj's most of the day, til I have to go run errands, LOL.

What is your favorite thing about your job?
The flexibility!! I love being able to work when it's convenient for me, allowing me to spend maximum time with my family. I don't have baby sitters anywhere near my home so I have to do my parties when my husband is not at work. So, I circle the days in my calendar that I want to work according to my husband's schedule and that's when I book my parties. And the money is amazing as well!

What is you biggest challenge as a WAHM?

ORGANIZATION!!! You should see my office! I tell my husband it's organized chaos but it's really not, lol. I just look at it and am so overwhelmed with the mess that I don't know where to start. So I never start. I know where everything is but I do not like my office being this way.

What are you doing to overcome those challenges?

Well, I'm trying to start putting things where they belong now instead of throwing them in the piles and making those bigger. I do have plans to get in here while my husband is off work for a week this month and get this place back in tip top shape! But you know, if organization in my office is the biggest challenge I'll face as a WAHM I'm ecstatic about it!!

What advice would you give a “wannabe” WAHM?

Go for it!! Do your research. Decide wether you want to do a business, like me, or do a job. There is a difference. With a job you wait on a paycheck. With a business, if you try Direct Sales, most companies have you keep your commission right off the top of your sales, no paycheck to wait on! Talk about instant gratification! And there is always room to promote through the ranks in Direct Sales. I never had the management opportunities I do now at a "real" job. Whatever you decide is best for you, do your research, check the business reputations of the companies you look at and pray about it before you jump in.

With both the companies I have been with, God has brought them to me out of nowhere and when I prayed about them I felt at peace. I also felt a sense of hope and excitement. I call it God, others call it "gut feelings". Trust it and go with it!",

Right now, my husband gets paid every 2 weeks. He makes the money to pay all the bills with, plus some extra. My money is all extra. So, what I make goes toward gas for two vehicles for two weeks, groceries, dinner out, or whatever fun things we decide to do as a family during the two weeks he doesn't get paid.

My goal is to make enough money to pay all of the bills and the extra fun money so my husband can quit work and start his own electrical business. He's an electrician now but he's working for a plywood mill and it seems that his mill may not be around forever. I want him to live his dream of having his own business. I know from experience how much he'll love it!!

Anything else you would like to share?

Have fun!!! I have had the best time in Direct Sales! I get to go into people's homes and make them laugh and have a great time, which makes ME have a great time! I get to share beautiful jewelry with them and help them design complete outfits with different pieces of jewelry.

Before Direct Sales I had almost become a recluse. My husband had to drag me out of the house to even go grocery shopping with him and the baby. I just didn't feel good enough about myself to want to do anything at all! Now, I know I am WORTHY of being listened to, worthy of being called a friend and I know I am beautiful! Maybe not to everyone else, but now I feel beautiful to myself again. That doesn't mean I still don't have some self-esteem issues but my outlook on life and my personality has completely changed. I am HAPPY doing what I do. I know I'm helping people and I'm helping myself and my family. And it is a BLAST!!!

Why did you join / start you business?
I love SimplyFun’s Mission Statement… "To promote the importance of play and create lifelong memories that enhance the quality of life for our Consultants, customers and employees."

Tell us about one of your typical days.
I am a homeschooling mom with 5 kids so my day begins with them. I usually answer e-mails in the morning before I start school but I don’t work on business again until the afternoon. We have breakfast, check e-mail and start school about 9:00 a.m. I lay the baby down for a morning nap around 10:30 a.m. and continue school with the older kids. We take a lunch break at 12:00 and my 2 elementary students are usually done by then. I play with the baby after lunch and the big kids bounce questions off me as needed. I have set 3:00 – 4:30 (baby’s naptime) aside to work on SimplyFun business. The kids and I usually “test” one of the SimplyFun games until about 5:00 or 5:30 and then I get dinner made and we are eating by 6:00 or 6:30 p.m. On Tuesdays and Fridays I try to have parties booked at 7:00 p.m. so I will head out after dinner is on the table on those nights.

What is your favorite thing about your job?
I get paid to play! How many people get to say that? I show people how to have fun with their friends and family away from the computer and tv screens and without video games. I get to see people laughing and reconnecting AND I got bring all these great games, puzzles and puppets into my house! I love that it is flexible and I schedule parties and business time when it is convenient for me and my family.

What is you biggest challenge as a WAHM?
I think turning off the WAHM part of me. I love my business but I have to keep a balance. I think every mom can say that is a challenge. You have to find time for you business and your family; keep that priority list straight!

What are you doing to overcome those challenges?
My kids really help me. They want my time so I know when I have been on the computer or phone too much!

What advice would you give a “wannabe” WAHM?
Look for a product or service that excites you! If you are excited about it that energy will attract others.

Be prepared to work. If someone is telling you it won’t take time or money to make your business successful then I would wonder if it is a scam.
Keep looking until you find the right fit for you and your family.

Why did you join / start you business?
I started as a full-time illustrator and WAHM in June of 2005. I added my Arbonne business in July of 2006. I started my illustration business to be home with my daughter full-time while still having a creative outlet and to put my talents to use, plus to support my family financially. I started my Arbonne business to "save" me from the illustration business. Arbonne allows me to focus on something different, get out of the house and to meet other people. It has really paid off for me so far. It's taken care of my cabin fever and has also challenged me to think creatively about promotion with a totally different business (I'm a marketing nut!).

Tell us about one of your typical days
I usually try and get up early some days (4:00 am seems to work well for me) to get started on projects, follow-up with emails, etc. before the family wakes up. From there, I move to my mobile office (laptop & wireless internet) and move where ever my daughter decides to play. I do a bit of marketing everyday for both business. Whether it's online marketing or things up ideas to try. Some days are harder than others if I have several deadlines or my daughter's having a fussy day. It all pans out and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

What is your favorite thing about your job?
Being home with my daughter and the freedom to go to the park we want to. This is my dream job!

What is you biggest challenge as a WAHM?
Probably that I do run my businesses while looking after a 2.5 year old. Sometimes work just doesn't get done when I planned, so I have to stay up late or get up early to meet a deadline. I have to focus on the real reason I'm home. To be with her.

What are you doing to overcome those challenges?
I started an Arbonne business on the side. Being stowed away in the house all day, I had continual cases of cabin fever and I just didn't get out and see people much. I needed something else to focus some of my energy on and Arbonne was the way for me to do that. I'm doing Arbonne for the longtime goal. It's my plan B. If my illustration work slows down or I can't work for some reason, my Arbonne income is there and in place. I'd also like to have the time to develop my own projects (like books and such) and have some extra money from Arbonne to turn down a few illustration jobs so I can focus on those.

What advice would you give a “wannabe” WAHM?
Try and find you grove early on. It took me a while to get in the swing of things and stayed up late for several months. I've finally gotten a hold on everything and hardly ever work past 4:00pm anymore. Also, learn to relax. one thing my husband and I do every night is watch a movie (we own a video store as well). It's a great way to forget about all you have going on and just veg-out. One thing that I found (and it took took me over a year as a WAHM to figure this out) is you need to get out of the house and away from your work and children. I love my daughter to death, but I realize that we need time away from each other sometimes.

Be committed to what you do. You will have hard times and you will feel like giving up more that once, believe me, I still have those days. Find what you are good at and you will be rewarded in more ways than just money.

I sometimes go in stages from my favorite quote. I guess they tend to pertain to what I'm going through at that time. The current one now is from Arbonne's President, Rita Davenport:
"You can have anything you want in life when you help others get what they want." This is so true in today's self-centered world and you can apply it to anything you do.
